Get to know your turf
Did you know that Astroturf is designed to have a better drainage system than real grass? Due to this, the land dries at a much faster rate and this, of course, comes with both strengths and weaknesses. The drainage system is excellent for when rain turns into sun and you are in desperate need to use your artificial garden, however it is not so great for cat and dog owners.

If your pet is constantly peeing on the same patch of your AstroTurf, this will slowly build up in its layers over time, creating potent odours to cling to your land. Not only is this smell foul for you and your guests but also for your pets too!

So how should you correctly remove odours from your artificial grass?

It’s important that when taking care of any stains and odours which have become apparent within your artificial grass that you tackle them swiftly and safely to prevent damage from being caused.

One way of doing this is by simply using water! Promptly after an accident involving your atrificial lawn has taken place, blot the liquid with a towel. This will help to reduce the amount that enters the drainage system. Then, rinse the area with a homemade solution of water and detergent. Following this, use cool water or alternatively a hose pipe to flush away any reside, further limiting the chances of a blocked drainage system in the future. Then proceed to treat the area with PowAir Urine and Odour Spray.

Have you tried PowAir Urine & Odour Spray?

PowAir Urine and Odour Spray is a quick and easy solution to neutralise dog and cat urine odours naturally and effectively. PowAir Urine and Odour spray helps break down pet stains and smells, including urine, faeces, vomit, pheromones trapped in carpets and upholstery.

If your fake grass is placed directly onto concrete and has no drainage system installed beneath, your artificial lawn will be at a high risk of odours drying into the fabric itself. If this occurs, pressure washing with water to clean the area and leaving it to dry before treating with PowAir Urine and Odour will leave your lawn smelling as good as new.

Beware of Pet Hair

Although your pet scratching their backs on your AstroTurf may seem harmless, an act that is so relieving for them is actually causing problems for you! As your pet malts, this fur begins to build up within your AstroTurf’s drainage system, introducing yet another way for odours to build up around your artificial lawn.

The chances of pet hairs being the reason that your drainage system is becoming blocked can be reduced by regularly:

• Brushing the strands of your fake grass to stop them attaching to one another

• Using a hoover or leaf blower to push away loose hairs

Once again, the blockage within this drainage system not only applies for rain water but also pet urine. The build-up of this odour overtime creates a very unwelcoming environment for you and your guests and can be prevented in just a few quick and simple steps.
